Compare latex gloves, Super Bright cloths, and white dishcloths on cost, reuse, and hygiene to choose the right cleaning supplies for your cafe.
Quick answer
Buy both: latex gloves for food prep and messy tasks, and Super Bright cloths for everyday wiping. If you must choose one, pick Super Bright cloths for general cleaning, and add gloves only when hygiene rules demand them.
Why gloves and cloths solve different problems
Gloves protect hands from dirt and cleaning agents; cloths remove dirt from surfaces. One does not replace the other. A cafe needs both for a complete cleaning routine.
Disposable gloves are single-use, so they add ongoing cost but save time on handwashing and reduce cross-contamination. Reusable cloths cost more upfront but last through many washes.
The reuse trade-off: disposable vs washable
Latex gloves are single-use, so you throw them away after each task. That is convenient for food prep but creates recurring waste and cost. Cloths, by contrast, are machine washable and can be reused many times, making them cheaper per use over time.
However, cloths require laundering and proper drying to stay hygienic. If you lack laundry capacity, disposable cloths or gloves may be simpler.
When one option clearly wins
For tasks like wiping espresso steam wands or cleaning stainless steel, Super Bright cloths are the practical choice because they are designed for wet and dry wiping. For handling food or using cleaning chemicals, gloves are essential.
If you run a small cafe with limited storage, buying a pack of each keeps you prepared without overstocking.
Key trade-offs to decide
- Cost per use: Super Bright cloths cost 9.9p each and are reusable; latex gloves cost about 6.6p each but are single-use. Over a week, cloths are cheaper if washed and reused. Calculate your weekly usage to see which fits your budget.
- Hygiene and cross-contamination: Gloves are ideal for food prep and handling waste; cloths need regular washing to avoid spreading germs. Use colour-coded cloths or separate cloths for different areas. Assign different cloths to different zones to reduce cross-contamination.
- Convenience and storage: Gloves are ready to use and dispose of; cloths require washing and drying space. If space is tight, disposable gloves may be more practical for some tasks. Check your laundry capacity before committing to reusable cloths.
